Bedroom

Tudor Place dollhouse bedroom containing a miniature chair, wardrobe, several chests or trunks, and a canopy bed, among other items.

With a four-poster bed, a rocking chair, and lots of little creature comforts, this bedroom has everything a doll needs to get a good night's sleep.

Natasha Burgess's bedroom is a marvel of miniature creations:

  • Candle stand. Shaker. Black paint. Made by Seth Tudor, through Gene Bourne.
  • Braided Rug. Round, multicolor. Made by Tasha Tudor. Gift of Tasha Tudor.
  • Map. Northumberland. Framed. Gift of Tasha Tudor.
  • Oil painting. Eric Froehlich’s face in Pere Lacordaere by Theodore Chasseriau. Copy in oil by Shigang Qian, of Falls Church, VA.
  • Cyanotypes, pair. Portraits of a friend of Tasha’s brother, Frederick, ca 1920. Cyanotypes are created by the light sensitivity of iron salts. A sheet of paper is brushed with solutions of ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide and dried in the dark. The object to be reproduced, be it a drawing, negative, or plant specimen, is then placed upon the sensitized sheet in direct sunlight. After the exposure, an impression has been formed, where the light hasn’t penetrated, on a blue ground.
  • Blanket Chest. Blue paint. Made by Seth Tudor, through Gene Bourne. Filled with Christmas decorations (tin pinecones). Christmas was Tasha Tudor's favorite holiday
  • Hanging Shelf. Yellow paint. Made by Seth Tudor, through Gene Bourne. A duplicate hangs in the kitchen. They are copies of a full-size one that hangs in Tasha’s bathroom at Corgi Cottage, also made by Seth.
  • Four Poster Canopy Bed. Walnut. Made by Seth Tudor, through Gene Bourne. The extra care Seth gave this bed is evidenced by detailed descriptions, drawings to scale, and instructions for putting the bed together, all in Seth’s handwriting, in the dollhouse file on provenances. Rope mattress by Harry Davis. The making of the elaborate bed dressings was coordinated by Stacy DeFreitas, of Christian-Lorraine Oriental Rugs, Richmond, VA. She headed a team of textile experts including JoAnne Hickman, Lauren Brown, and Katie Glusica. Using mostly vintage lace--some with embroidered roses--and other vintage fabrics, the quartet--three of whom are textile graduates of Virginia Commonwealth University--made a feather mattress, pillows, sheets, pillowcases, shams, bed skirt, comforter with lace coverlet and lace trim, and a lace canopy with hand-sewn lace trim.
